Magnesium is a widely present element in nature, part of the green pigment of leaves (chlorophyll) and of physiological compounds with a high energy content (Mg-ATP). Magnesium takes part in the work of hundred enzyme systems.

The average daily food requirements (RDA) of magnesium in adults is 375 mg. The content of magnesium in the human organism is 0.5 g / kg; 60% of this amount is found in the form of phosphate in the bones. The magnesium concentration in blood plasma is of 2 mg/100 ml. Both plant and animal foods contain 200-300 mg of magnesium per kg, ensuring an adequate intake in a normal diet.
Symptoms of magnesium deficiency may include: nausea, muscle weakness, fatigue, loss of balance, depression, psychosis, irritability or confusion.

Magnesium has a good effect on the maintenance of many normal physiological functions: electrolyte balance, for example in sports or multi-sprint endurance, energy-yelding metabolism, nerve transmission and muscle contraction including the heart muscle, cell reproduction, bone metabolism, dental health, protein synthesis, reduction of tiredness and fatigue, mental performance, or those aspects of brain and nerve functions which determine concentration, learning, memory and reasoning, psychological functions such as cognitive and affective ones.
